Sports Premium
Investing in Healthy, Active Futures
At New Moston Primary School, we are committed to promoting healthy lifestyles, increasing physical activity, and developing a love for sport and physical education in all our children. The Primary PE and Sport Premium is a vital source of funding that allows us to build sustainable improvements to the quality of PE, physical activity, and sport across our school.
What is the PE and Sport Premium?
The Primary PE and Sport Premium is a government initiative that provides additional funding to all primary schools in England. It is designed to help schools:
-
Improve the quality of PE and sport provision
-
Encourage active and healthy lifestyles
-
Increase participation in physical activity
-
Build confidence and competence in children’s physical skills
-
Ensure that improvements are sustainable and long-lasting
Our Vision for Sport and Physical Activity
At New Moston, we believe that physical education plays a vital role in children’s overall development — supporting not only their physical health, but also their mental well-being, resilience, teamwork, and confidence. Our aim is to provide a broad, high-quality PE curriculum and a wide range of opportunities for all children to take part, get active, and thrive.
How We Use the Sports Premium
We use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to our PE, sport, and physical activity provision. This includes:
-
Employing a dedicated Sports Coach to lead lessons, clubs, and competitions
-
Providing CPD and mentoring for staff to improve the teaching of PE
-
Purchasing high-quality equipment to enhance PE lessons and active playtimes
-
Increasing opportunities for children to take part in inter- and intra-school competitions
-
Expanding our offer of after-school and lunchtime sports clubs
-
Targeting specific groups to increase participation and reduce inactivity
Measuring Impact
We evaluate the impact of our Sports Premium spend across the following areas:
-
Participation levels in PE and sport (including extracurricular clubs)
-
Staff confidence and competence in delivering PE
-
Children’s physical fitness, well-being, and enjoyment of physical activity
-
Engagement of targeted groups (e.g. pupils with SEND, less active children, disadvantaged pupils)
-
Sustainability and legacy of improvements
