Personal Development

Our Personal Development Framework

Unique Me. Connected Me. Local Me. Global Me.

At New Moston Primary School, we believe that personal development is just as important as academic success. Our Personal Development Framework is designed to help children grow as individuals — building their confidence, character, and understanding of the world.

It is an essential part of our Curriculum Framework, closely linked with Enrichment and Enhancement. Through a rich programme of experiences, opportunities, and purposeful teaching, we help every child become proud of who they are and prepared for who they want to be.

How It Connects to Our Curriculum Framework

  • Engagement: Children feel seen, heard, and valued as individuals

  • Entitlement: Every child receives a high-quality offer of personal development

  • Enrichment: Experiences beyond the classroom that broaden horizons

  • Enhancement: Deeper opportunities that stretch, challenge, and inspire

Our Personal Development Framework supports the whole curriculum by embedding character, identity, and life skills throughout the school experience.

Why Our Personal Development Framework Matters

This framework is how we teach values, develop character, and raise aspirations. It’s embedded in our curriculum, our enrichment offer, our assemblies, and our everyday interactions. It helps every child:

  • Grow in confidence and self-awareness

  • Understand how to relate to others

  • Be proud of their identity and community

  • Develop the values, attitudes, and knowledge needed for life beyond school

At New Moston, personal development isn’t a bolt-on. It’s built in.

The Personal Development Framework:

Unique Me

“I understand who I am.”

This strand helps children explore their identity, talents, and ambitions. It focuses on:

  • Building self-awareness, confidence, and self-worth

  • Recognising strengths, interests, and personal goals

  • Celebrating individuality and difference

  • Encouraging positive physical and mental well-being

Connected Me

“I learn and grow with others.”

Here, we help children understand their place within the school and wider peer community. It focuses on:

  • Friendships, teamwork, and respectful relationships

  • Inclusion, empathy, and understanding others

  • Learning how to resolve conflict and make positive choices

  • Supporting charities and causes that help other children and families

Local Me

“I am proud of where I come from.”

This strand builds pride in our Manchester and New Moston roots, helping children connect with their community and take active roles in it. It focuses on:

  • Understanding local heritage, culture, and opportunities

  • Visiting and working with local organisations

  • Developing responsibility and active citizenship

  • Supporting a local charity as part of our community commitment

Global Me

“I understand the wider world.”

We prepare children to be respectful, thoughtful citizens of the world. This strand focuses on:

  • Celebrating global diversity, faiths, and cultures

  • Exploring global challenges and sustainability

  • Taking part in global initiatives and projects

  • Supporting a global charity to make a difference beyond our school
